Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with the Championship side only half a year following starting insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds finished amicably in August.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading abusive chants regarding Wilder amid Leeds' promotion celebrations this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will be playing for Wilder as the Blades’ manager aims to pull the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder

The pair had previous conflict before Leeds moved up back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

All seems to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of a boost up front while Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I said that to Patrick.”

Latest Career Struggles

The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Forest, Chelsea FC and Middlesbrough striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
