Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I accept my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more direct in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
